Baseball’s Comeback Falls Short Against Wis.-Stevens Point

Auburndale, Fla. - The Framingham State University baseball team rallied to pull within one run in the bottom of the eighth, but the Rams were defeated 10-5 by Wis.-Stevens Point this afternoon in non-conference action at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.   

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Wis.- Stevens Point 10, Framingham State 5 

- Records: Framingham State (0-9), Wis.-Stevens Point (6-4) 

- Location: Lake Myrtle Auburndale, Fla 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Stevens Point grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Rams cut the deficit in half on a JC Espinal RBI ground out in the bottom of the inning. 

  • Stevens Point pushed the lead back to two in the top of the second, but the Rams answered with a solo homer from Daniel Robichaud in the bottom of the inning to trail 3-2. 

  • Stevens Point added a single run in the top of the third and two in the top of the fifth to lead 6-2. 

  • The Rams added a run in the bottom of the fifth closing the gap to 6-3. Joseph Cicchetti singled and eventually scored on an RBI single from Steven Burbank. 

  • In the bottom of the sixth, the Rams had runners on second and third and Robichaud delivered a sacrifice fly to deep center pulling the Rams within two. 

  • The Rams closed the gap to one run, 6-5, on an RBI single from Johnny Lynch in the bottom of the eighth inning, but after a rain delay Stevens Point added five in the top of the ninth to reach the final margin. 

  • Vincent LoGuidice took the loss on the mound for the Rams going five innings, allowing six earned runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts. 

  • Robichaud finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with a homerun, a run scored and two RBI, while Lynch finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI. Lucas Basile added two hits and a run scored.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Lesley at 7 p.m.
