Baseball Falls to Clarkson 12-9

Auburndale, Fla. - The Framingham State University baseball team was defeated 12-9 by Clarkson this afternoon in non-conference action at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.   

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Clarkson 12, Framingham State 9 

- Records: Framingham State (0-6), Clarkson (6-3) 

- Location: Lake Myrtle Auburndale, Fla 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Clarkson grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Rams cut the deficit in half on a Ryan Boyle double in the bottom of the inning. 

  • Clarkson added five in the top of the second pushing the lead to 7-1. 

  • The Rams closed the gap to 7-6 in the bottom of the second. Dane Frellick plated a run with a single, Boyle walked with the bases loaded and JC Espinal tripled with the bases loaded driving in three. 

  • Clarkson used four in the top of the third pushing the advantage to 11-6. The Rams closed the gap to 11-9 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Boyle just missed a home run when his shot to right bounced back into play off the top of the fence driving in a run. Espinal added an RBI double, and Joseph Cicchetti added a sacrifice fly. 

  • Clarkson added a single run in the seventh to reach the final margin. 

  • Boyle finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, triple, two runs scored and three RBI, while Espinal finished the game 2-for-5 with a double, triple and four RBI. 

  • Maxwell Jreaswec took the loss on the hill for the Rams going an inning and two thirds allowing seven runs. 

  • PJ Moniz tossed five innings of relief allowing one earned run on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
