Baseball Swept by Washington & Jefferson

Auburndale, Fla. - The Framingham State University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader today with Washington & Jefferson, falling 12-11 in the opener and 9-0 in game two in non-conference doubleheader at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

Game 1: W&J 12, FSU 11 

  • The Rams grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after an RBI single from JC Espinal and a sacrifice fly from Robert Johnston. 

  • W&J took the lead with five runs in the bottom of the second, but the Rams pulled within one in the top of the third. Johnny Lynch plated on a double play ball and Lucas Basile delivered and RBI single to right. 

  • The Rams offense erupted for seven runs in the top of the sixth taking an 11-5 lead. Basile scored first on the back end of a double steal play. Johnston added an RBI single, while Joseph Cicchetti was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded forcing home a run. Lynch added a sacrifice fly. Daniel Robichaud added an RBI single and Basile capped the inning with a two run base hit. 

  • W&J came from behind in the bottom of the seventh plating seven runs of their own to walk off with the victory. 

  • Vincent LoGuidice started on the hill for the Rams and did not factor in the decision. LoGuidice went six innings, allowing five runs, two earned, on six hits with two strikeouts. 

  • Basile finished the game 4-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a run scored, while Johnston, Espinal and Shane Costello all recorded a pair of hits in the game. 

Game 2: W&J 9, FSU 0 

  • In game two, W&J jumped on the board with five runs in the top of the first inning as they capitalized on five walks in the frame. 

  • W&J would add two runs in the second and single runs in the fourth and fifth to reach the final margin. 

  •  Thomas McLaren earned the victory, going five shutout innings allowing just two hits with three strikeouts. 

  • Scott Nosky took the loss for the Rams going an inning and two thirds allowing seven runs, six earned, on two hits. 

  • Adam Martin and Joshua Santiago each tossed an inning of scoreless relief. 

  • Dane Frellick went 1-for-2 at the plate, while Robichaud, Espinal and Costello all added hits in the game.
