Baseball Falls Twice to Western New England

Auburndale, Fla. - The Framingham State University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader this afternoon with Western New England by scores of 11-1 and 4-2 in non-conference doubleheader at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

Game 1: WNEU 11, FSU 1 

  • The Rams got on the board in the top of the first inning. Steven Burbank tripled down the right field line with one out and scored from third on a wild pitch. 

  • Western New England took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the first and then added three more in the bottom of the fourth pushing the lead to 5-1. 

  • The Golden Bears added six more in the bottom of the sixth inning to reach the final margin. 

  • Burbank finished the game 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored, while Robert Johnston, JC Espinal and Johnny Lynch each went 2-for-3 in the opener. 

  • Cameron Prescott took the loss for the Rams on the mound in his first start of the season. Prescott went four innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on five hits with five strikeouts. 

Game 2: WNEU 4, FSU 2 

  • The Golden Bears used a pair of homeruns to lead 3-0 after the top of the first. 

  • The Rams countered with a run in the bottom of the frame. Burbank walked and advanced to third on a double by Ryan Boyle. After another walk, Johnston grounded out driving home Burbank. 

  • The Rams loaded the bases in the bottom of the second with two outs on a Shane Costello single, a hit by pitch and a walk. Boyle followed with an RBI walk pulling the Rams within one at 3-2. 

  • Western New England added an unearned run in the top of the fifth pushing the lead to 4-2. 

  • Boyle finished game two 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Ryan Plocker and Joesph Cicchetti added doubles. 

  • Joshua Sunderland took the loss for the Rams going five innings and allowing four runs, one earned, on four hits with seven strikeouts. 

  • Alexander Montero tossed two innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

The Rams are back in action on Monday when they face Washington and Jefferson for a pair of games beginning at 11:30 a.m.
