Top Seed Baseball Falls to Fifth Seed Mass. Maritime in Semifinals of the MASCAC Baseball Tournament

Framingham, Mass. - The top seeded Framingham State University baseball team was defeated 8-2 this afternoon by fifth seed Mass. Maritime in one semifinal of the 2023 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Tournament at Bowditch Field.   

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Mass. Maritime 8, Framingham State 2 

-Records: #1 Framingham State (26-15), #5 Mass. Maritime (23-19)  

- Location: Bowditch Field Framingham, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Bucs got on the board in the top of the fourth on a solo homerun to right from Brett Velzis. Frank Aten added an RBI double in the inning for the 2-0 lead. 

  • The Rams cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI double to center from Shane Costello. 

  • The Bucs threatened in the top of the eighth loading the bases with two outs, but the Rams were able to get a ground ball and keep the game 2-1. 

  • Caleb Hendrix tied the game for the Rams with a solo homerun to centerfield with one out in the bottom of the eighth. 

  • The Bucs retook the lead in the top of ninth after a leadoff walk to Michael Logiudice. Brett Velzis followed with a double to deep center allowing Loguidice to score from first. The Bus would add five more in the frame as they opened up an 8-2 lead. 

  • Nolan Kennedy earned the victory in relief for the Bucs going .2 innings of relief allowing no runs on no hits. Brenden Baiardi tossed a scoreless ninth. 

  • Anthony Panza took the loss in relief for the Rams, going 1.1 innings allowing five runs, two earned on four hits. Adam Martin started on the mound and went seven innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts. 

UP NEXT: 

With the victory, the Bucs advance to the tournament Championship Series against second seed Bridgewater State that begins at 2 p.m.
