Second Seed Bridgewater State Defeats Top Seed Baseball to Advance to Championship Round of the MASCAC Baseball Tournament

Framingham, Mass. - The top seeded Framingham State University baseball team rallied from five runs down to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the second seeded Bridgewater State Bears were able to push a run across in the top of the eighth to secure a 7-6 victory in one semifinal of the 2023 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Tournament at Bowditch Field.

-Records: #1 Framingham State (26-14), #2 Bridgewater State (31-11)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Bears got on the board in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly from Kevin Lindsay, but the Rams capitalized on a Bear error to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.  

  • The Bears grabbed the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth on a Jay Wladkowski RBI double and a Cam James RBI single.   

  • The Bears added two more in the top of the fifth and one in the sixth extending the lead to 6-1. Joshua Selander and Lindsay both doubled in runs. 

  • The Rams tallied a single run in the bottom of the sixth on a fielder's choice. 

  • The Rams rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6. Shance Costello and Caleb Hendrix plated runs with singles and Steven Burbank added an RBI double. 

  • The Bears took advantage of Framingham error in the top of the eighth and James delivered a sacrifice fly for the go ahead run. 

  • The Rams loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth after three hit batters, but the Bears were able to get a pop out to end the inning. 

  • Matt Joselyn earned the win for the Bears going seven innings, allowing six runs, four earned, on 10 hits. Tyler Dasilva-Medeiros worked a scoresless ninth to earn the save. 

  • Scott Nosky took the loss for the Rams as he went two innings of releif allowing an unearned run on two hits with a strikeout. 

UP NEXT: 

With the victory, the Bears advance to the tournament Championship Series which begins tomorrow at 2 p.m., while Rams will play an elimination game tomorrow at 10 a.m. also in Framingham.
