Top Seed Baseball Holds Off Fifth Seed Mass. Maritime 7-6 in MASCAC Baseball Tournament Quarterfinal

Framingham, Mass. - The top seeded Framingham State University baseball team held off fifth seed Mass. Maritime's in the ninth inning as the Rams held on for the 7-6 victory in one quarterfinal of the 2023 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Tournament at Bowditch Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Rams got on the board first on a three-run homerun to right from Ryan Boyle in the bottom of the third inning. 

  • The Bucs got two runs back in the top of the fourth on RBI doubles from Frank Aten and John Tropea. 

  • The Rams added four more in the bottom of the fourth extending their lead to 7-2. Ryan Plocker and Shane Costello each plated a run with a single and Boyle added a two-run single. 

  • The Bucs received an RBI single from Brett Velzis in the top of the seventh to close the deficit to 7-3. 

  • In the top of the ninth inning, Boyle robbed the Bucs leadoff batter Aiden Henderson of a homer as he made a spectacular catch falling over the fence in left field. The Bucs did have runners on first and second with one out and Aten delivered and RBI single, but the Rams were able to end the game with a flyout and a strikeout.  

  • Vincent LoGuidice earned the win for the Rams, going seven innings allowing three earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts. Anthony Panza earned his eighth save of the season tossing two thirds of an inning and allowing one hit. 

  • Boyle finished the game 3-for-5 with a run scored and five RBI, while Costello added a pair of hits. 

UP NEXT: 

With the victory, the Rams advance to the winner's bracket in the tournament and will face second seed Bridgewater State tomorrow in Framingham at 3 p.m., while Mass. Maritime will play an elimination game tomorrow at 11 a.m. also in Framingham.
