Baseball Falls to Fitchburg State 11-10

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University baseball team was defeated 11-10 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Bowditch Field.     

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Fitchburg State 11, Framingham State 10 

-Records: Framingham State (23-13, 13-6 MASCAC), Fitchburg State (18-17, 9-10 MASCAC)  

- Location: Bowditch Field Framingham, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Falcons grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run single from Nolan Hills and they extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the second after an RBI ground out from Maxwell Kelly and an RBI single from Matthew Smith. 

  • The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Steven Burbank, but a Vincent Eramo RBI double in the top of the fourth pushed the lead to 5-1. 

  • Cam Gilroy pulled the Rams within two (5-3) with a two-run homer to deep center in the bottom of the fourth. 

  • Fitchburg State used a pair of bases loaded walks to extend the lead to 7-3 in the top of the fifth, but the Rams plated four runs in the bottom of the inning tying the game 7-7. Robert Johnston plated two runs with a double, Lucas Basile added an RBI triple and Gilroy an RBI infield single. 

  • The Falcons retook the lead in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly. 

  • The Rams loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Shane Costello tied the game with an RBI groundout and Burbank gave the Rams their first lead of the game, 10-8, on a two run single. 

  • The Falcons had runners on the corners with one out in the top of the ninth. After an out, Eramo delivered a three-run homerun to left putting the Falcons on top 11-10. The Falcons retired the Rams in the bottom of the inning to secure the victory. 

  • Anthony Panza took the loss in relief for the Rams going one inning, allowing three earned runs on three hits. Lowell Pare earned the victory in relief for the Falcons going two allowing an unearned run on two hits. 

  • Prior to the game, the Rams recognized the five seniors – Johnston, Panza, Jared MacLeod, Matthew Shaver and Teaghin Andre – as part of Senior Day.

The two teams are back in action tomorrow with a pair of games in Fitchburg beginning at noon.
