Baseball Splits Two with Salem State

Salem, Mass. - The Framingham State University baseball team split a doubleheader this afternoon with Salem State taking the opener by a score of 6-0 before falling 5-3 to the Vikings in game two in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action.     

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 6, Salem State 0 
Salem State 5, Framingham State 3 

-Records: Framingham State (17-10, 8-3 MASCAC), Salem State (7-19, 4-7 MASCAC)  

- Location: Central Campus Field Salem, Mass. 

Game 1:  

  • In the opener, the Rams got on the board in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Caleb Hendrix. 

  • The lead stayed 1-0 until the Rams plated a pair of runs in the top of the sixth on a bases loaded walk from Ryan Plocker and a Shane Costello RBI single. 

  • The Rams tacked on three more in the top of the seventh to reach the final margin. Cam Gilroy reached on an error allowing a run to score and Matthew Shaver added a two run single to center. 

  • Cameron Prescott earned the complete game shutout victory for the Rams. Prescott allowed just five hits with four walks and three strikeouts. 

  • Lucas Basile finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Shaver finished with two RBI. 

Game 2:  

  • In game two, the Vikings got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and they added a run in the bottom of the second to lead 3-0. 

  • The Rams got on the board in the top of the third on an RBI single from Steven Burbank. 

  • A single run in the bottom of the fourth and another in the bottom of the sixth pushing the Vikings lead to 5-1. 

  • The Rams rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh on a pinch-hit RBI single by James Gilleran and an RBI single from Boyle, but the Vikings were able get a ground out to end the game. 

  • Joshua Sunderland took the loss for the Rams going four innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and five walks. 

  • Hendrix and Shaer finished with two hits apiece in the game.

The Rama are back in action on Wednesday when they host Lasell at 3 p.m.
