Baseball Sweeps New England College to Close Southern Swing

Myrtle Beach, SC. - The Framingham State University baseball team closed their spring break trip sweeping New England College this morning by scores of 8-4 and 10-0 in non-conference action this evening at the Cal Ripken Experience.     

THE BASICS:

Game 1 

  • In the opener, the Rams plated six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control of the game. Ryan Boyle, Steven Burbank, Jimmy Gilleran and Matthew Shaver all delivered RBI hits. 

  • The Rams added a run in the bottom of the third on a Ryan Plocker double and another run in the bottom of the fourth on a Caleb Hendrix double pushing the lead to 8-0. 

  • The Pilgrams cut the deficit in half with four runs in the top of the fifth including a three-run homer from Brett Patnode. 

  • Scott Nosky earned the victory on the hill for the Rams going five innings allowing four earned runs on three hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.  

  • Anthony Panza earned his first save of the season throwing two innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit with no walks and four strikeouts.  

  • Boyle finished the game 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Burbank finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Shaver chipped in with two hits and two RBI, while Hendrix also recorded a pair of hits and drove in a run. 

Game 2:  

  • In game two the Rams once again struck for four runs in their first at bat of the day. Boyle and Burbank delivered RBI singles, Gilleran scored on a balk and Burbank scored on an error. 

  • The Rams added two more in the top of the fourth pushing the lead to 6-0. Cam Gilroy, who doubled, scored on a wild pitch and Shaver stole third and scored when the throw sailed into left field. 

  • The Rams added four more in the top of the sixth including an RBI double from Gilleran to reach the final margin. 

  • Vincent LoGuidice earned the victory on the hill improving to 2-0 on the year. LoGuidice went four and a third shutout innings allowing just three hits, with two walks and seven strikeouts. 

  • Cameron Prescott tossed two and two third innings of scoreless relief without allowing a hit, while striking out three. 

  • Shane Costello finished the game 3-for-5 with a run scored, while Gilleran finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI.
