Baseball Splits Two with Albertus Magnus

Myrtle Beach, SC. - The Framingham State University baseball team erupted for 34 runs in game one as the Rams defeated Albertus Magnus 34-6 in game before falling 9-1 to the Falcons in game two in non-conference action this evening at the Cal Ripken Experience.     

THE BASICS:

Game 1 

  • The Rams grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Shane Costello doubled and Robert Johnston followed with an RBI single to center. A walk and a balk gave the Rams runners on second and third. Johnston scored on a passed ball and Cam Gilroy delivered an RBI single. 

  • The Falcons countered with two in the top of the second closing the gap to 3-2. 

  • The Rams scored nine runs in the bottom of the second inning to opening up a 12-2 lead. Costello walked with the bases load and Johnston delivered a two-run double. Caleb Hendrix added a two-run single in the inning and Matthew Shaver and Costello chipped in with RBI base hits. 

  • Albertus Magnus got two back in the top of the third, but the Rams added six more in the bottom of the inning including a two-run homer from Jimmy Gilleran. 

  • The Falcons added two more in the top of the fourth before the Rams erupted for 16 runs in the bottom of the frame. The Rams retired the Falcons in the top of the fifth to secure the run shortened victory. 

  • Costello finished the day 3-for-3 with four runs scored and six RBI, while Johnston also went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and seven RBI. Gilleran finished the game with four RBI, while Hendrix crossed the plate five times, recorded three hits and drove in two. 

  • Joshua Sunderland earned the win on the mound going four innings allowing six runs, four earned, on seven hits while Benjamin Respress tossed an inning of scoreless relief. 

Game 2:  

  • The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Rams cut the deficit in half in the top of the third on an RBI double by Ryan Boyle. The Falcons answered with a run in the bottom of the frame pushing the lead back to two (3-1). 

  • The Falcons plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the bottom of the sixth to reach the final margin. 

  • Costello finished game two 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored, while Boyle finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI. 

  • Adam Martin took the loss in his first collegiate start going four innings allowing five earned runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
