Susquehanna Bests Baseball; 8-4

Myrtle Beach, SC. - The Framingham State University baseball team was defeated 8-4 by Susquehanna in non-conference action this afternoon at Socastee High School.     

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Susquehanna built a 5-0 lead with three runs in the top of the third and two runs in the top of the fourth. 
  • The Rams got a single run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double from Matthew Shaver and a single run in the bottom of the sixth when Cam Gilroy reached on an error diving Lucas Basile who had singled earlier in the inning cutting the deficit to 5-2.
  • Susquehanna pushed a run across in the top of the seventh pushing the lead back to four.
  • The Rams closed the gap to two (6-4) with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Joe Cicchetti and Teddy Chisholm were each hit by a pitch and Cam Gilroy following with a single loading the bases.  Steven Burbank reached on a error plating the first run and Danny Robichaud plated the second with a sacrifice fly.
  • Susquehanna added two more in the ninth to reach the final margin.
  • Shaver finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, while Shane Costello, Basile, Gilroy, Burbank and Jared MacLeod each picked up hits in the game.
  • Brady Gaynor took the loss on the mound going three and a third allowing five runs, three earned, on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Ryan Morry tossed three and a third in relief allowing an unearned run on two hits, while Teaghin Andre tossed an inning and a third of scoreless relief.

The Rams are back in action on Thursday when they face Albertus Magnus for a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. in Myrtle Beach.
