Baseball Comeback Fall Short Against St. Joseph’s

Myrtle Beach, SC. - The Framingham State University baseball team rallied from four runs down late in the game but fell short as St. Joseph's Brooklyn was able to hold on for a 5-4 victory in non-conference action this afternoon at the Cal Ripken Experience.     

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  St. Joseph's 5, Framingham State 4 

-Records: Framingham State (2-3), St. Joseph's (Brkln) (2-3)  

- Location: Grifith Field – Cal Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach, S.C. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • St. Joseph's took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the first, but the Rams tied the game in the bottom of the second on an RBI triple from Ryan Plocker. 

  • In the top of the seventh, St. Joseph's scored four runs and took a 5-1 lead.  

  • The Rams loaded in the bottom of the inning with no outs after a single from Shane Costello and back-to-back walks from Robert Johnston and Ryan Boyle. Cam Gilroy worked a bases loaded walk to score a run and a double play ball plated the second run of the frame cutting the deficit to 5-3.  

  • In the bottom of the ninth Johnston and Boyle reached on infield singles. Cam Gilroy followed with an RBI single closing the gap to 5-4, but St. Joseph's was able to record the final outs and secure the victory 

  • James Gilleran started on the mound for the Rams and went six and two-thirds innings allowing five runs, three earned, on four hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. 

  • Cam Prescott and Anthony Panza combined to throw two and a third innings of scoreless relief. 

  • Gilroy finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and two walks, while Costello finished the day 2-for-4 with a run scored and walk.

The Rams are back in action on Wednesday when they face Susquehanna at 10 a.m. in Myrtle Beach.
