Johnston Delivers in Extra Innings and LoGuidice Tosses One-Hitter as Baseball Sweeps Keene State

Myrtle Beach, SC. - The Framingham State University baseball team received a walk-off RBI single to right from Robert Johnston in extra innings and a one-hit shutout performance on the hill from Vincent LoGuidice in game two as the Rams defeated Keene State 5-4 and 2-0 in non-conference action this morning at the Cal Ripkin Experience.

FSU 5, KSU 4 (8 Innings) 

  • The Owls staked themselves a 4-0 lead in the opener after a single run in the top of the second on an RBI single from Evan McCue and three runs in the top of the fifth on a two run double to right by Jonathan Chatfield and a pass ball. 

  • The Rams rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings. Jared McLeod was hit by a pitch with one out and he advanced to third on a double down the left field line from Robert Johnston. Ryan Boyle followed with a bloop single to center scoring McLeod. 

  • Cam Gilroy was hit by a pitch loading the bases for Dane Frellick who worked a walk plating Johnston. After Keene State changed pitchers, the Owls got a strikeout giving the Rams the bases loaded with two outs. Stephen Burbank delivered a two RBI single to center tying the game. 

  • In the top of the eighth with the runner placed on second, the Rams were able to record three straight outs.  

  • In the bottom of the frame, with the runner placed on second, MacLeod bunted the runner to third and Johnston followed with an RBI single down the right field line for the winning run. 

  • Joshua Sunderland earned the victory on the hill for the Rams tossing three innings of relief. Sunderland did not allow a hit or a run and retired all nine batters he faced. 

FSU 2, KSU 0 

  • LoGuidice tossed a gem in game two holding the Owls hitless until the top of the seventh inning. LoGuidice retired 12 Owls in a row from the bottom of the second inning until Chatfield led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to right. LoGuidice faced just four batters over the minimum and recorded a pair of walks and four strikeouts en route to his first victory of the season. 

  • The Rams got on the board first in the top of the second inning. Steven Burbank reached on an error and moved to third when Shane Costello was hit by a pitch. Ryan Plocker followed with an RBI single to left scoring Burbank. 

  • The Rams added an insurance run in the top of the fifth on an RBI ground from Dane Frellick with the bases loaded. 

  • Burbank finished game two going 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and a double.

The Rams are back in action tomorrow when they face St. Joseph's Brooklyn at noon in Myrtle Beach.
