Baseball Walks Off with Game Two Victory in Split with Worcester State

Framingham, Mass.  – The Framingham State University baseball team walked off with a 3-2 victory in game two of Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader with Worcester State University this afternoon at Bowditch Field.  The Lancers edged the Rams 4-2 in the opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game 1 -

  • In the opener, the Rams grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Robert Johnston led off the inning with a double and moved to third on an out.  Bobby Higgins was hit by a pitch putting runners on the corners.  Higgins stole second and Johnston took home on the back end of double steal.
  • The Lancers took their first lead of the day in the top of the fourth inning. They loaded the bases with no outs and Chris Wright laid down a bunt single scoring the run from third and the second run came home on a double play ball for the 2-1 lead.
  • Kevin Girardin tied the game for the Rams in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single to center.
  • The Lancers took the lead for good with a pair in the top of the sixth. They loaded the bases and an infield single off the bat of Thomas DiBattista plated a run and the Lancers capitalized on an error to score the second run.
  • Sean Mahan earned the complete game victory on the hill for the Lancers.  Mahan allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
  • Anthony Panza started for the Rams and went four innings and did not factor in the decision. Scott Nosky tossed three innings of relief and took the loss for the Rams allowing two runs, one earned, on one hit with four strikeouts and three walks.

Game 2 -

  • In game two, the Lancers plated single runs in the top of the first and second innings.  Sean Devin delivered an RBI single in the first and Tom Halliwell added one in the second.
  • The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the second when Higgins scored from third on a wild pitch cutting the deficit to 2-1.
  • Andrew Caulfield tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with a leadoff solo homer to left.
  • The Lancers threatened in the top of the seventh with runners on and two outs, but Chris Iannetta made a diving catch in right field to end the inning.
  • In the bottom of the inning, a hit batter and error gave the Rams runners on first and second with one out.  Johnston delivered the game-winning hit, a single to left that scored Matthew Shaver from second.
  • Kevin Scerra earned the victory for the Rams on the mound tossing one inning of scoreless relief.
  • Josh Jezouit started for the Rams and went four innings allowing two earned runs on four hits, while Jack DeCoste tossed two innings of scoreless relief and allowed just one hit.
  • Chris Elliott started for the Lancers and did not factor in the decision going five innings and allowing two earned runs.  Parker Bigelow took the loss going an inning and a third in relief allowing an unearned run on one hit.
