Baseball Walks Off with 1-0 Game One Victory over Salem – Game 2 to Be Played on Wednesday

Northboro, Mass. - The Framingham State University baseball team received a complete game shutout performance from senior Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) as the Rams defeated Salem State 1-0 in game one of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader this afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex. 

THE BASICS:

- Scores:         Game 1: Framingham State 1, Salem State 0
Game 2: Postponed after 4 Innings with Salem leading 3-0. Game will be restarted at a later date

- Records:      Framingham State (11-11, 5-3 MASCAC), Salem State (10-10, 4-4 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game 1 -

  • Hodgson and Salem's Stephen Keskindis were locked in a scoreless pitcher's duel in the opener with Hodgson allowing just five hits to the Vikings and Keskindis allowing four to the Rams through the first six innings.
  • Salem State threatened in the top of the seventh with two outs.  Luke Eggers singled to left and Kyle O'Connor followed with a single putting runners on first and second.  Hodgson was able to induce a ground out for the final out of the inning.
  • Senior Matt Fogarty (Millis, Mass.) walked on four straight pitches to lead off the bottom of the seventh.  After an out Fogarty moved to second on a wild pitch and third on a ground out.  Junior Cory Caraher (Plymouth, Mass.) followed with an RBI single up the middle giving the Rams the walk off victory.
  • With the victory, Hodgson improves to 5-1 on the year after going seven scoreless innings allowing seven hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
  • Keskindis took the loss allowing just one earned run on five this with eight strikeouts and three walks.

Game 2 -

  • In game two, the Vikings led 3-0 when the game was stopped after four innings due to inclement weather.  Due to MASCAC policy, the game will be restarted from the beginning on Wednesday at the NEBC at 2p.m.

 

UP NEXT:

The Rams are back in action tomorrow night when they face Anna Maria in non-conference tilt at the NEBC at 8 p.m., while the Vikings are back in action on Friday when they begin a three game series with Westfield State.
