Baseball Rallies for 8-2 Victory in Game Two in Split at Salem State

Salem, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team rallied from a 4-3 loss to Salem State in game one to take game two of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader 8-2 this afternoon at the Central Campus Baseball Field.

With the split, the Rams improve to 16-15 on the season and are now 7-5 in the league, while the Vikings are now 18-14 overall and 7-5 in the MASCAC.

In the opener, RJ Warnock's sixth inning RBI single put the Vikings in the lead 4-2 and proved to be the game winner as the Rams got a run in the top of the seventh.  Junior Kyle Dembrowski (Natick, Mass.) launched a two out solo homer to left center, but Brock Riley was able to record the final out to seal the victory.

The Rams got on the board first in their opening at bat of the day. Junior Aaron Williams (Brockton, Mass.) led off the game with a single and stole second.  Williams came around to score when senior Cameron Borrelli (Peabody, Mass.) reached on an error.

The Vikings tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Alex Toomey.

Shawn Rebello added a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second to put the Vikings ahead 2-1 and a Mac Daniel Singleton triple plated the Vikings third run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.

The Rams pulled back within one in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by junior Kyle Lippert (Carlsbad, Calif.), but Warnock's RBI single in the bottom of the inning put the Vikings back ahead by two.

Junior Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) took the loss for the Rams going six innings and allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits.

Williams recorded a pair of hhits for the Rams in the opener.

In game two, the Rams scored twice in the first to take the early lead.  Borrelli doubled home a run and was followed by an RBI single by senior Kyle Pileski (Bristol, Conn.).

The Rams scored four times in the top of the third to take a 6-0 lead. Pileski doubled home a run and Dembrowski added a two run single.  Sophomore Anthony Venuti (Braintree, Mass.) added an RBI single driving the Vikings starter out of the game.

Venuti added a solo home run in the sixth and Pileski an RBI single in the seventh to account for the Rams final runs of the game.

The Vikings got on the board with two in the bottom of the sixth.

Senior Mike Andrews (Stoneham, Mass.) earned the win for the Rams going the distance and allowing two earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

Pileski finished 3-for-4 while Venuti had two hits and two RBI, including the home run.

The Rams are back in action on Friday with a non-conference game at Keene State at 3:30 p.m.
