Westfield, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team opened conference play this afternoon and split a pair of Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) contests with MCLA.  The Trailblazers took the opener 2-0 before the Rams offense erupted for 10 runs in a 10-5 game two victory.

The games were played in Westfield at Westfield State as the Trailblazers' fields are not ready after the early March winter storms.

After the split, the Rams are now 8-9 overall and 1-1 in the league, while the Trailblazers move to 7-6 on the year and are also 1-1 in the MASCAC.

The Trailblazers received a complete game shutout effort from Liam Nolan and a clutch hit from Logan Rumbolt to secure the game one victory.  Nolan improved to 2-0 on the hill on the year as he scattered four hits and struckout seven.

Framingham's Mike Andrews (Stoneham, Mass.) was equally as impressive through the first five innings as he allowed just one hit entering the sixth inning.

The Trailblazers got on the board in the sixth with a pair of runs.  Back-to-back singles and a sacrifice gave the Trailblazers runners on second and third with one out.  Rumbolt followed with a two run double down the leftfield line scoring a pair.  Andrews was able to avoid any further damage in the inning, but Nolan retired the Rams in order in the seventh to seal the win.

Andrews tossed six innings allowing the two earned runs on four hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Junior Jordan Pallazola (Rockport, Mass.) went two-for-three at the plate for the Rams, while classmate Aaron Williams (Brockton, Mass.) went one-for-three.

In game two, the Rams scored a pair of runs in each of the first two innings of Trailblazer starter Bobby new.  Pallazola started the scoring with an RBI double off the fence in left in the first and sophomore Anthony Venuti (Braintree, Mass.) followed with an RBI groundout making it 2-0.

The Rams added an unearned run in the top of the second and a Williams' sacrifice fly made it 4-0.

In the fourth, Williams ripped an RBI single pushing the lead to 5-0 driving New from the game.

The Trailblazers got a single run in the bottom of the fourth before the Rams added two more in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from senior Kyle Pileski (Bristol, Conn.) and an RBI double by Joe Ambrosino (Bradeton, Fla.).

Two more in the top of the sixth would put the game away for the Rams who also added a single run in the top of the seventh.

Williams finished game two three-for-four at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI, while Ambrosino also recorded a pair of hits.

Junior Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) earned the win on the mound going seven innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on 11 hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Roger Williams at 2:30 p.m. at the NEBC in Northboro.
