Baseball Comes from Behind in Game Two for 6-4 Victory in Split with Macalaster

Tucson, AZ – The Framingham State University baseball team tallied three runs in the bottom of the sixth to come from behind and defeat Macalaster 6-4 in game two to salvage a split of a doubleheader at the Tuscan Invitational Games.  Macalaster defeated the Rams 5-2 in the opener.

With the split, the Rams are now 6-4 on the year, while Macalaster is now 6-5.

In game one, the Scots got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Jack Sahargun plated the first with a sacrifice fly with runners on the corners.  Jared Abelson followed with an RBI single to right for the 2-0 lead.

The Rams answered with a pair of runs in the top of the third.  Senior Kyle Pileski (Bristol, Conn.) singled to left and moved to second on a wild pitch.  After a pair of outs, junior Matt Fogarty (Millis, Mass.) followed with an RBI ground rule double to center scoring Pileski.  Junior Aaron Williams (Brockton, Mass.) plated Fogarty on a single to left tying the game.

Macalaster took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning on a three run homerun by Graham Low.

Williams went two-for-three for the Rams with an RBI, while Fogarty, Pileski and junior Jordan Pallazola (Rockport, Mass.) collected one hit apiece.

Junior Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) took the loss going six innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

Matthew Plisko earned the win for Macalaster going six innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and did not walk a batter.

In game two, Macalaster got on the board first with four runs in top of the first inning as they capitalized on two Framingham errors to score three unearned runs and received a two RBI single from Andy Hayes.

The Rams cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the second.  Sophomore Anthony Venuti (Braintree, Mass.) and Pileski walked to lead off the inning.  Junior Kyle Dembrowski (Natick, Mass.) was hit by a pitch after an out to load the bases.  Junior Kyle Lippert (Carlsbad, Calif.) worked a walk forcing in Venuti.  Williams followed with a sacrifice fly to right scoring Pileski.  Fogarty walked to reload the bases, but Macalaster was able to end the inning with a fly ball.

Senior Mike Andrews (Stoneham, Mass.) settled in after allowing four runs in the first inning and kept Macalaster off the board giving the offense a chance.  The Rams had the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth and fifth, but could not push a run across.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Rams scored three runs to take the lead for good.  Fogarty walked and took second on a wild pitch.  Pallazola followed with a walk and senior Cameron Borrelli (Peabody, Mass.) delivered a two run triple down the right field line scoring Fogarty and Pallazola.  Venuti plated Borrelli with a sacrifice fly for the 6-4 lead.

Andrews was able to retire Macalaster in the seventh to secure the victory.  Andrews improves to 1-0 on the year after picking up the complete game victory. Andrews allowed four runs, one earned, on six hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.

The Rams are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they face Greenville at 6 p.m. EDT.
