Baseball Opens Arizona Trip with 14-4 Eight Inning Victory over Augsburg

Tucson, AZ – The Framingham State University baseball team scored thirteen runs over the first four innings and received a solid start from junior Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) as the Rams defeated Augsburg University 14-4 in a run-rule shortened game at the Tuscan Invitational Games.

With the win, the Rams are now 1-3 on the year, while the loss is Augsburg's first of the season as they are now 3-1.

Hodgson evened his season record at 1-1 after going six innings and allowing just two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

The Rams, who belted out 17 hits, received three hits apiece from sophomores Anthony Venuti (Braintree, Mass.) and Andrew Curtis (Dracut, Mass.), while Matt Brockett (Guilford, Conn.), Jordan Pallazola (Rockport, Mass.), Jeff Bessozzi (Milford, Mass.) and Joe Ambrosino (Bradenton, Fla.) recorded two hits.

The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a solo homerun to left center by Venuti and added two more on a bases loaded single by Brockett and a Venuti sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second.

Augsburg got on the board in the top of the third on an RBI single to left from Zach Bakko, but the Rams would bat around in the bottom of the inning and score six runs on five hits to take control of the game. 

Senior Cameron Borelli (Peabody, Mass.) led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single to center by Kyle Pileski (Bristol, Conn.).  Junior Kyle Dembrowski (Natick, Mass.) plated a run on a single and Curtis scored on a wild pitch. Ambrosino reached on an error forcing in the fourth run of the inning before Venuti singled home a run and Borrelli drove one in with a sacrifice fly.

The Rams added four more in the bottom of the fourth including an RBI base hit from Brockett and a run scoring double off the bat of Pallaozla.

Augsburg scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh off the Rams bullpen before the Rams reached the 10 run differential on bases loaded single to left by Ambrosino in the bottom of the eighth.

The Rams are back in action tomorrow in Tucson when they face Dickinson State at 4 p.m. MST.
