Baseball Falls at Salve Regina 7-4

Newport, RI – The Framingham State University baseball team surrendered three runs in the bottom of the seventh as they were defeated 7-4 in non-conference action by Salve Regina University this afternoon at Reynolds Field.

With the win, Salve Regina improves to 11-2 on the year, while the Rams are now 8-8.

The Rams grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly to left by senior Ryan Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.).

The Rams doubled their lead in the top of the third on an RBI single from sophomore Jordan Pallazola (Rockport, Mass.).

Salve Regina tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on RBI doubles by Christian Vargas and John Militano.  The Seahawks took their first lead of the day in the bottom of the sixth when they capitalized on a Ram error.

The Rams grabbed the lead back in the top of the seventh on a two RBI double from sophomore Joe Ambrosino (Bradeton, Fla.). 

Salve Regina answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to secure the victory.

Pallazola finished the day 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Ambrosino went 3-for-4 with two RBI.  Junior Kyle Pileski (Bristol, Conn.) also recorded a pair of hits and scored a run.

Sophomore Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) started on the mound for the Rams and did not factor in the decision. Hodgson allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits with seven strikeouts.  Junior Mike Andrews (Stoneham, Mass.) took the loss going an inning in relief and allowing three earned runs on two hits with four walks.

The Rams are scheduled to open conference action on Saturday against Fitchburg State.
