Baseball Holds Off Nichols for 5-4 Victory

Northboro, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team defeated Nichols College 5-4 this afternoon in non-conference action at the New England Baseball Complex. With the win, the Rams improve to 8-7 on the year, while Nichols is now 9-5.

Junior Al Wallach (Nahant, Mass.) improved his season record to 4-0 as he went five innings allowing an earned run on four hits with two strikeouts.  Sophomore Kevin Connelly (Bolton, Mass.) tossed three innings in relief and allowed two earned runs on three hits, while classmate Michael Raymond (Peabody, Mass.) recorded his second save going an inning in relief.

The Rams received two hits apiece from sophomores Aaron Williams (Brockton, Mass.) and Jordan Pallazola (Rockport, Mass.) and senior Manny Powers (Malden, Mass.).  Pallazola drove in a pair of runs, while senior Ryan Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

A Wardwell RBI double in the fourth inning got the Rams on the board and three runs in the top of the fifth including RBI hits from Pallazola, Powers and Wardwell gave the Rams a 4-0 lead.

Nichols got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, but Pallazola pushed the lead back to four in the seventh with an RBI double.

Nichols pushed across two runs in the seventh and one in the ninth to reach the final score.

The Rams are back in action on Wednesday afternoon with a non-conference game at Salve Regina University.
