Baseball Powers Past Rowan 10-5

Auburndale, Fla. – The Framingham State University baseball team scored six runs in their final three at bats including four driven in by senior Manny Powers (Malden, Mass.) to blow open a 4-4 game and secure a 10-5 victory over Rowan University.

The Rams, who have won their last two meeting with Rowan, improve to 3-3 on the season, while Rowan is now 7-3 on the year.

Powers paced the Rams offense going 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, a homerun and six RBI, while junior Cameron Borelli (Peabody, Mass.) and sophomore Kyle Lippert (Carlsbad, Calif.) picked up two hits apiece.

The Rams got on the board first in the top of the second when senior Cole Josselyn (Hampton, NH) single and moved to third when junior Matt Brockett (Guilford, Conn.) reached on an error.  Brockett stole second and the throw got away, allowing Brockett to move to third and Josselyn to score the game's first run.  Joe Ambrosino (Bradeton, Fla.) followed driving in Brockett with a ground out.

Rowan tied the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Joe Sadler and a sacrifice fly from Jason Clapper.  Rowan took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI ground rule double off the bat of Sadler.

The Rams grabbed the lead back in the top of the sixth. Junior Kyle Pileski (Bristol, Conn.) reach on an error and Powers followed with a two run homer to left putting the Rams up 4-3.

In the bottom of the inning, Rowan loaded the bases with one out.  Shawn Leydon plated the game tying run with a sacrifice fly.  Kyle Golla followed with a single to left, but Pileski threw out the runner at the plate trying to score from second to send the game to the seventh tied at 4-4.

The Rams took the lead for good in the seventh.  Brockett walked and then scored from first when Lippert reached on an error.  Later in the inning, Powers drove in a pair of runs with a single thru the left side.

A Josselyn sacrifice fly in the eighth scored Jordan Pallazola (Rockport, Mass.) who had doubled earlier in the inning and Powers drove in a pair with a double in the ninth to cap the scoring.

Junior Al Wallach (Nahant, Mass.) earned the win on the mound going 7.1 innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on 11 hits with four strikeouts and two walks.  Michael Raymond (Peabody, Mass.) earned his first save of the season going 1.2 innings without surrendering a hit while striking out three.

The Rams are back in action tomorrow with a pair of games against Minnesota-Morris beginning at 10 a.m.
