Late Runs Lift Western New England Past Baseball 13-6

Auburndale, Fla. – The Framingham State University baseball team was defeated 13-6 this afternoon by Western New England University at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Gold Bears improve to 3-1 on the year, while the Rams are now 1-2.

Western New England grabbed the early lead with a pair of run in the top of the second inning on a solo homerun from Steve Rivela and an RBI single from Alex Loparco.

The Rams answered with three in the bottom of the third to take their first lead of the game.  Sophomore Kyle Lippert (Carlsbad, Calif.) walked and junior Matt Brockett (Guilford, Conn.) reached on an error that moved Lippert to third.  Senior Ryan Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) plated Lippert on an RBI ground out and senior Manny Powers (Malden, Mass.) reached on an error driving in the game tying run.  Junior Kyle Pileski (Bristol, Conn.) put the Rams ahead with an RBI single up the middle.

Western New England took the lead back in the top of the fifth on a two run single by Eric Lacaire and an RBI double from Daniel Moran.

The Rams tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs on a Golden Bear error.

The Golden Bears took the lead back for good in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from Loparco, who went 5-for-6 in the game with four RBI.

After WNE added three more in the top of the seventh to take 9-5 lead, the Rams added a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single from sophomore Jordan Pallazola (Rockport, Mass.).

The Golden Bears would add four runs in the final two innings to reach the final margin.

Sophomore Kyle Hodgson (Berkley, Mass.) took the loss going six innings and allowing six earned runs on eight hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

The Rams are back in action tomorrow in Auburndale when the face Colby-Sawyer for a pair of game beginning at 3 p.m.
