Babson Defeats Baseball in Non-Conference Action

Babson Park, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team was defeated this afternoon 19-4 by Babson College in non-conference action at Govoni Field.

Edward Lehr (Byram Township, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with a double and five RBI, and junior Jack Halpin (Glastonbury, Conn.) doubled twice and drove in four runs for Babson.

With its sixth win in the last seven games, Babson is now 11-4-1 overall, while Framingham State drops to 4-10 on the year.

Sophomore Adam Ayala (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) finished with three hits and four runs scored, while first-year Eric Jaun (Loveland, Ohio) went 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored for the Beavers. Junior Owen Shea (Northborough, Mass.) had three hits, including a home run and a double, to go along with two RBI, two walks and three runs scored. Sophomore Mark Webber (Norwell, Mass.) also homered and drove in three runs, and senior George Crowley (Watertown, Mass.) added a pair of hits and two runs scored on the afternoon.

Senior Jake Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) went 3-for-4, while first-year Aaron Rios (Stratford, Conn.) and junior Cole Josselyn (Hampton, N.H.) both had two hits and drove in a run for the Rams.

After a scoreless first inning, the Green and White scored seven times in the bottom of the second. Shea hit a two-run homer to left and Jaun came through with a two-out, two-run double to center. Lehr produced an RBI single in the third and a two-run double in the fourth to make it 10-0.

Framingham State put together a three-run sixth inning to cut its deficit to 11-3, only to see Babson respond with six runs in the bottom half of the frame. 

Sophomore John Floegel (Summit, N.J.) gave up three runs while striking out five over seven innings to pick up his first win of the year for the Green and White. First-year Alex Erwin (Tewksbury, Mass.), who was one of 10 pitchers used by the Rams, worked into the second inning and allowed two runs to fall to 0-1 on the year.

Both teams will be back in action with doubleheaders on Saturday as Babson takes on WPI at Assumption starting at 11 a.m., while Framingham State hosts Fitchburg State at 5:45 p.m.
