Eastern Connecticut Rallies for 12-10 Win Over Baseball

Auburndale, Fla. – The Framingham State University baseball team closed their spring break trip to Florida this morning with a 12-10 loss to Eastern Connecticut State University in non-conference action at Chain of Lakes.     

With the win, the Warriors are now 2-1, while the Rams move to 2-3.

The Rams took the early lead with a single run in the top of the first on an RBI single by Kyle Pileski (Bristol, Conn.), but Eastern responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 advantage. 

The Rams tied the game in the top of the second as Anthony Venuti (Braintree, Mass.) reached on an error that plated a run from third and classmate Aaron Rios (Stratford, Conn.) tied the score with an RBI fielder's choice.

The tie was short lived as Eastern added a single run in the bottom of the second and a pair in the third to take a 6-3 lead.

The Rams batted around in the top of the fourth scoring six runs to take a 9-6 lead.  Rios drove in a run with an infield hit and junior Ryan Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) followed with a single to center that pulled the Rams within one.  Pileski struck once again for the Rams with a bases clearing double that put them on top 8-6.  Freshman Kyle Lippert (Carlsbad, Calif.) capped the inning with an RBI single up the middle.

Pileski drove in his fifth run of the day in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 10-6, but Eastern Connecticut rallied for six runs in a rain soaked seventh inning to take the lead for good.

Pileske finished the game 3-for-5 with a run scored and five RBI, while Rios finished the game with a pair of RBI.

Senior Zack Kirby (Rochester, Mass.) started on the hill for the Rams going six innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on nine hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.  Senior Brendan McDonough (Chelmsford, Mass.) was tagged with the loss going one inning and allowing six runs.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex when they host UMass Dartmouth at 3:30 p.m.
