Ramapo Swings Past Baseball

Auburndale, Fla. – The Framingham State University baseball team suffered their first defeat of the season this afternoon falling to Ramapo 18-9 in non-conference action at Chain of Lakes Stadium.     

With the win, the Roadrunners improve to 11-0 on the year, while the Rams are now 2-1 on the season.

The Rams grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning loading the bases on a single by sophomore Cam Borrelli (Peabody, Mass.) and a pair of walks.  Freshman Aaron Rios (Stratford, Conn.) and junior Cole Josselyn (Hampton, NH) each drove in a run on fielder's choices to put the Rams ahead.

The Roadrunners answered in the top of the third cutting the lead in half as they capitalized on an error in the infield to score Ryan Rinsky from third. 

Ramapo tied the game and took the lead for good in the top of the fourth.  Jared Ensmenger scored from third on a pass ball to tie the score and a bases loaded walk to Matthew Chemis put the visitors on top.  Ramapo added two more in the inning on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-2.

The Rams answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to pull within one.  Rios reached on an error, stole second and moved to third on an overthrow by the catcher.  Senior Ryan Connelly walked giving the Rams runners on the corners and Josselyn delivered with an RBI single to right.  Connelly stole home on the back end of a double steal with Josselyn to account for the other run.

Ramapo added four runs in the top of the fifth and five in the top of the seventh to take control of the game.

The Rams tacked on three runs in the seventh including an RBI single by Connelly and two more in the eighth on RBI hits from freshman Kyle Lippert and Anthony Venuti.

Sophomore Chirs Riga took the loss for the Rams going four innings and allowing six runs, four earned, on two hits with a strikeout and 10 walks.  Freshman Blake Waters tossed two innings of scoreless relief for the Rams in his first appearance of the year.

The Rams are back in action tomorrow morning when they face Wisconsin-Whitewater at 9 a.m.
