Baseball Belts Three Homeruns in Season Opening 9-3 Win over Rowan

Auburndale, Fla. – The Framingham State University baseball team belted three homeruns and received six strong innings on the mound from senior Zack Kirby (Rochester, Mass.) as the Rams opened the season with a 9-3 victory over Rowan in non-conference action this afternoon at the Lake Myrtle Complex.     

Kirby surrendered a run in each of the first two innings before settling in and keeping Rowan off the board in his final four innings of work on the day.  Kirby went six innings to earn his first victory of the year allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Junior Ryan Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.), sophomore Kyle Pileski (Bristol, Conn.) and senior Jake Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) all laced two run homeruns in the game for the Rams with Ryan Wardwell finishing the day with two hits three RBI.

Rowan took the lead in their first at bat of the day on an RBI single by Monny Strickland.  Ryan Wardwell put the Rams ahead in the bottom of the inning with a two run shot to left that scored Jake Wardwell, who walked to lead off the inning. 

Rowan tied the score in the top of the second on an RBI single by Steven Todd, but the Rams took the lead for good in their half of the inning.  Senior R.J. Gray (Lowell, Mass.) led off the inning with a single and after an out Pileski blasted a homerun to left to put the Rams on top.

The Rams loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fourth.  Gray and Ryan Wardwell delivered RBI singles, while sophomore Cam Borrelli (Peabody, Mass.) walked to force in the third run of the frame.

Jake Wardwell tacked on his two run homer in the bottom of the fifth to account for the final two runs for the Rams.

Dillon Mendel laced an RBI double in the top of the ninth to account for Rowan's final run of the game against the Rams bullpen.

 The Rams are back in action tomorrow when they face Anderson at Lake Myrtle Park with the first pitch slated for 1:30 p.m.
