Crofton Drives in Four as Baseball Defeats Elms 13-3

Framingham, Mass. — Freshman outfielder Will Crofton (Hopkinton, Mass.) drove in four runs as the Framingham State College baseball team defeated Elms College 13-3 in non-conference action this afternoon at Framingham’s Bowditch Field.  With the win, the Rams improve to 15-14 on the season, while the loss drops the Blazers to 7-18. 

Junior Matthew Magazine (Marlborough, Mass.) picked up the win and improved to 3-0 on the season as pitched five solid innings allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits with five strikeouts.  Jimmy Borden (Lexington, Mass.) and Stephen Marfione (Medford, Mass.) pitched four scoreless innings of relief. 

Elms College took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two run homerun by outfielder Stephen Fisher (West Boyleston, Mass.), but Magazine settled in and retired the next five hitters.

The Framingham State offsense scored runs in all but one inning in the game including three runs in the first and third and two runs in the second and fourth.  They also tacked on single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh.

Freshman outfielder Will Crofton (Hopkinton, Mass.) went 3-for-5 in the game with three runs scored and four RBI, while junior Corey Ketterer (Plymouth, Mass.), the reigning MASCAC Player of the Week, went 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBI.  Second baseman Daniel Tomasz (Newburyport, Mass.) picked up three hits and an RBI in the game, while catcher Sean Callahan (Watertown, Mass.) added two hits and two RBI.

Fisher finished the game with four hits for the Blazers and three RBI, while Brendan Cordeiro (Berkley, Mass.) added two hits.

The Rams return to action on Thursday as they host Eastern Nazarene at 3:30 p.m., while the Blazers host Nichols tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.
