51 Rams Named to Fall 2012 MASCAC All-Academic Team

Buzzards Bay, Mass. — A total of 564 student-athletes, including 51 from Framingham State University, have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference with selection to the league’s Fall 2012 All-Academic Team as announced earlier today by MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann.

Football and women’s soccer lead the way with 17 and 13 student-athletes honored respectively, while cross country and field hockey placed seven apiece on the All-Academic squad.  Men’s soccer placed four, while volleyball placed three on the 2012 MASCAC Fall All-Academic team.

Honorees from the 2012 MASCAC Champion football squad include seniors Alex Avery (Psychology), Hakeem Barge (Sociology), Nick Clark (Sociology), Tyrone Figueroa (Business Administration), Pat Lamusta (Business Administration) and Joe Masucci (Business Administration), junior Brian Castellanos (Criminology), sophomores Phil Clain (Business Administration), Matt Mangano (Criminology) and Brian Montambault (Psychology) and freshmen David Crosson (Pre-Engineering), Mark Giles (Business Administration), Joe Grigg (Psychology), Zach Pappas (Undeclared), Casey Pierre (Psychology), Matt Quatrucci (Undeclared) and Tyler Suggs (Undeclared).

Honorees from the 2012 women’s soccer team include seniors Lauren Bova (Psychology) and Sarah Carey (Business Administration), juniors Kayla Austin (Criminology), Mary Brinkmann (Elementary Education), Taylor Ezold (Business Administration), Jessica Latini (Psychology), Michelle Mendes (Biology), Cara Murtagh (Early Childhood Education) and Kristi Stewart (Psychology), sophomore Emily Biegner (Food & Nutrition) and freshmen Mollie Beaulieu (Undeclared), Jenny Johnson (Communication Arts) and Danielle Sampson (Psychology).

Senior Greg Hartwich (Communication Arts), juniors Chris Baza (Business Administration), Elena Cox (Psychology), and Monique LaPierre (Psychology) and freshmen Jenna Anan (Food & Nutrition), Emma Hazen (Political Science) and Thomas Rainsford (Criminology) were honored from the cross country team.

Members of the 2012 field hockey squad included on the All-Academic team include juniors Katie Devoe (Communication Arts) and Brittany Goben (Biology), sophomores Casey Taylor (Psychology), Rhea Urbaniak (Geography) and Hannah Wilkins (Undeclared) and freshmen Emma Fitzpatrick (Fashion Design & Retailing) and Samantha Pajer (Fashion Design).

Juniors Andy Baptista (Communication Arts) and Nathan Hall (History) and sophomores Nick Cotter (Business Administration) and Billy Levitsky (Sociology) were honored from the 2012 MASCAC Regular Season Co-Champion men’s soccer team, while juniors Andressa Fernandes (Economics) and Taryn McCarthy (Fashion Merchandising) and sophomore Morgan Drew (Biology) were honored from the 2012 MASCAC Champion volleyball team. 

Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the eight MASCAC institutions during the course of the recently completed Fall 2012 academic semester and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the semester are eligible for selection to the Fall All-Academic Team.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s oldest Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom.  MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University.  Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey and football, while Western Connecticut State University will join the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.
