Baseball and Softball to Compete in This Week’s MASCAC Tournament

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team has earned the third seed in this week's Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Tournament, while the softball team has earned the second in the 2024 MASCAC Softball Tournament. 

The baseball team earned a share of the 2024 MASCAC Regular Season Title. The Rams, Salem State and Bridgewater State all finished the regular season 14-7 and landed atop the MASCAC standings. By virtue of the league's tiebreak policy, the Vikings are the top seed and the Bears are the second seed and they will host games on Thursday. 

As the third seed the Rams will face sixth seed Worcester State on Thursday in Bridgewater at 12 p.m. The winner of the game will advance to face Bridgewater State on Thursday afternoon.  

Fifth seed Mass. Maritime will face four seed Westfield State on Thursday in the other opening round matchup which will be played in Salem. The winner will advance to face the Vikings on Thursday afternoon. 

The double elimination portion of the tournament will be played in Salem on Friday, Saturday and if necessary, Sunday. The winner of the MASCAC Baseball Tournament will receive the MASCAC's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Tournament. 

The softball team finished the regular season 11-3 in league play which placed them in a tie for second with Worcester State. The Rams earned the second seed by virtue of their two victories over the Lancers earlier in the season.  

As the two seed, the Rams will host a quarterfinal on Friday at 4 p.m. at Maple Street Field. Top seed Westfield State will host the other quarterfinal on Friday and the rest of the double elimination tournament on Saturday and Sunday. 

Fifth seed Bridgewater State will face fourth seed Salem State on Wednesday in one opening round game, while sixth seed Fitchburg State will face third seed Worcester in the other matchup. The Owls will host the lowest remaining seed on Friday, while the Rams will host the highest remaining seed from those two opening round games. 

The winner of the MASCAC Softball Tournament receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
