Mark Johnson Named Staff Assistant and Head Men’s & Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach

Framingham, Mass. – Mark Johnson has been selected Staff Assistant - Head Men's & Women's Cross Country and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Coach as announced by Director of Athletics Tom Kelley.

"We could not be happier to have Mark joining the athletic department as a head coach and full-time staff member," said Kelley. "Mark's background and experience both in coaching, education and athletics, including his time working with a professional soccer team, will make him a great asset for the department. He has done a great job since taking over the cross country program earlier this fall on an interim bases and we look forward to seeing what he can do with both cross country programs and the women's track program."

Prior to taking over as the interim head cross country coach this fall, Johnson had been an assistant with the FSU men's and women's cross country programs since 2017. Johnson has also been an assistant coach with the outdoor women's track and field program working primarily with the middle distance runners, long distance runners and the throwing events. Johnson has been influential in recruiting student-athletes to all three programs during his time as an assistant coach and has also developed and implemented individualized training programs for student-athletes. Johnson coached the Rams first outdoor track regional qualifiers in the shot put, discus and 10K in 2023.

Johnson has previously worked as an assistant equipment manager with the New England Revolution. While working with the Revolution, Johnson assisted with the setup and breakdown of all locker room and field operations in addition to working on the team's equipment orders and budget. Johnson also spent time working within the Wellesley Public Schools as a special education teacher in the Therapeutic Learning Center. Well with the public schools, Johnson developed and implemented IEPs and modified the curriculum to accommodate student needs.

In addition to his duties with both cross country programs and the women's outdoor track and field program, Johnson will serve as a staff assistant within the athletic department and will oversee the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
