104 Rams Named to Fall/Winter 2019 MASCAC All-Academic Team

Westfield, Mass. — A total of 1.224 student-athletes, including 104 from Framingham State University, have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) with selection to the league's Fall/Winter 2019 All-Academic Team as announced earlier today by MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann.

Men's ice hockey leads the way with 19 student-athletes honored, while field hockey followed with 13 and women's soccer with 12.  The volleyball squad had 11 student-athletes honored, while women's basketball, women's cross country and football had 10 honorees apiece.  The men's cross country team had nine honorees, while men's basketball and men's soccer followed with six and four respectively.

"Congratulations to the 1,224 student-athletes who were named to the 2019 MASCAC Fall/Winter All-Academic Team," Commissioner Baumann said.  "The list is a testament to the hard work of our student-athletes not only in the classroom but in their respective field of play.  The conference is excited to the growth of student-athletes recognized on this year's team."

Honorees from the ice hockey team include juniors Nolan Greene (Finance), Walker Hamilton (Biology), Jack Pierson (Management) and Matt Siegel (Finance), sophomores Zach Bettmeng (Food & Nutrition), Jacob Garman (Accounting), Alex Groner (Management), Jacob Haynes (Marketing), Brian Kozek (Psychology), Trevor Lewandoski (Health & Wellness), Chris Rupp (Management) and Erick Walsh (Business & IT), and freshmen Malcolm Cardwell (Management), Blake Carlson (Political Science), Jake Conrad (Computer Science), Matthew Cucinotta (Undeclared), Luca Olivo (Business & IT), Matt Paiotti (Finance) and Kolton Smith (Criminology).

Members of the field hockey team who earn All-Academic include juniors Gina Crosby (Elementary Education), Kerri Morse (Studio Art) and Maddy Pimental (Communication Arts), sophomores Meghan Croteau (Criminology), Cindy Fraine (Early Childhood Education), Chelsea Getchell (English), Grace Pushor (Biology), and Julia Tetreault (Child & Family Studies), and freshmen Lindsay Gorney (Early Childhood Education), Bridgette Hasbrouk (Elementary Education), Bella Kondi (Fashion Design), Rebecca Lee (Global Studies) and Mallory Weir (Mathematics).

Honorees from the 2019 women's soccer squad include seniors Erin Angelillo (Food & Nutrition), Annalyse Arnold (Psychology), Stephanie Beaumont (Management) and Sam Beninati (Psychology), junior Jasmine Lees (Criminology), and sophomores Abigail Kurtzer (Fashion Design) and Jessica Morgan (Sociology) and freshmen Ashley Fenton (Finance), Brooke Fenton (Finance), Briana Hyppolite (Undeclared), Olivia Renda (English) and Samantha Walsh (Early Childhood Education).

Volleyball placed seniors Deirdre Fay (Food Science) and Brenna Marquis (English), juniors Morgan Failla (Food Science) and Brandey Rodriguez (Criminology), sophomores Alyssa Cafarelli (Elementary Education), Lexi Gardner (Early Childhood Education), Payton Hodsdon (Criminology) and Brandee Thomas (Food & Nutrition) and freshman Emily Flaherty (Biology), Grace Riccio (Early Childhood Education) and Anna Syzmanski (Elementary Education) on the all-academic team.

Members of the women's basketball team recognized with all-academic honors include seniors Mary Kate O'Day (Sociology) and Emily Velozo (Elementary Education), juniors Abbey Battaini (Elementary Education) and Camille Desrochers (Mathematics), sophomores Liana Cunningham (Mathematics), Rai Edwards-Thomas (Biology), Krysta Padellaro (Psychology & Elementary Ed.) and freshmen Gwendolyn Carpenter (Biology), Katty Haidul (Psychology) and Flannery O'Connor (Health & Wellness).

Women's cross country placed seniors Dana Arburr (Food & Nutrition) and Beatrice Donoghue (Fashion Design), juniors Charlene Desjardin (Fashion Design) and Eri Takahashi (Accounting), sophomores Ashley Bosch (Management), Katie Hayes (Biochemistry), Kathleen Moore (Marketing), Kammarie Pelland (Undeclared) and Eliza Weisse (Undeclared), and freshman Emily Newcomb (Elementary Education) on the all-academic squad.

Members of the 2019 MASCAC Champion football squad include seniors Jodens Didie (Psychology) and Hakeem McKoy (Accounting), juniors Mathew Kapfer (Elementary Education) and Kennedy Waruhiu (Business & IT), sophomores Cully Curran (Undeclared), Henrique DeBoni (International Business) and Emmanuel Exilhomme (Business & IT), and freshmen Thiago Andrade (Biology), Jack Clem (Business & IT) and Nick Gordon (Business Management).

Men's cross country saw senior Andy Zhang (Psychology), junior Logan Cochran (Business Management), sophomores Joe Echaniz (Criminology) and Ben Matson (Environmental Science) and freshmen Jaydon Kinuthia (Biology), Cullen Lancaster (Undeclared), Mohamed Mohuddin (Computer Science), Qayyum Salako (Biology) and Miguel Torres (Business & IT) honored with selection to the All-Academic Team.

Honorees from the men's basketball team include junior Keith Hollman (Business Management), sophomores Tomas Donoyan (Criminology) and Jared Gordon-Anderson (Communication Arts), and freshmen Johsue Castillo (Criminology), John Kalton (Business Management) and Nicholas Ruby (Criminology), while seniors Corey Davidge (Management) and Bryant Nardizzi (Liberal Studies) and junior  Bryce Nardizzi (Sports Management) and Tyler Treichler (Geography) were honored from the 2019 MASCAC men's soccer championship squad.

Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the MASCAC institutions during the course of the fall and winter 2019 athletic season and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the semester are eligible for selection to the Fall/Winter All-Academic Team.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom.  MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University.  Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of men's ice hockey and football, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013.
